Employee and Employers Relation Through the Metaverse
For a consistent growth trajectory, it is imperative that companies keep up with the changing times and the role of organizations in the Metaverse is no anomaly. Metaverse will have an increasing effect on how employees work, train and interact within their workplace. The lines between physical and digital environments will eventually get blurry as the Metaverse will move on from being a mere ‘alternate reality’ to an extension of the physical work environment.
Early Signs and impact on HR
The early adopters of the Metaverse have noted the biggest difference in their Human Resource department. Right from the hiring of employees, to onboarding, daily functioning and employee exiting- the Metaverse has added a new dimension to the employee experience at the workplace. As soon as Meta announced they were hiring 10,000 employees for its virtual reality platform in Europe, it had a big knock-on effect on smaller companies as they started to prepare for future hiring. A ripple effect that made a lot of heads turn and redirected companies towards creating strategies on how to invest in human capital and technologies for the virtual work environment.
Changing Employee-Employer relation dynamics
It is safe to assume that the optimism for a new virtual environment has percolated onto the ground level at organizations both on the employee and employer front. ExpressVPN organized a study of 1,500 employees and 1,500 employers in the U.S. which reveals that- 3 in 5 employees and 4 in 5 employers are looking forward to an immersive work environment. The research also mentions that 66% of employers are excited about the Metaverse, whereas nearly 50% of the employees are eagerly waiting for this transformation.
A lot of employers need to innovate to keep the wheel moving in terms of making the Metaverse an improved version of our existing work landscape. One can always take inspiration from certain methods and techniques that have worked out well for companies that have entered the virtual realm.
For example, a few companies have built an Innovation Hub within the Metaverse which provides the employees with a sandbox to experiment, innovate and test unique methods of carrying out their daily tasks that may lead to overall performance enhancement.
Challenges of a different kind
Not only will the Metaverse contribute to enhancing the Employee-Employer relationship, but it will also pose multiple challenges pertaining to data security and physical eye strain on users.
Some of the early adopters of the Metaverse have already started to take countermeasures to tackle the challenges such as-
- Working in tandem with the respective IT departments to ensure that data security systems are providing optimal security to the employees in the digital world.
- Constantly upgrading and improving the Metaverse integration and training programs for better output.
- Regularly taking into consideration the feedback from the employees on how to improve their Metaverse experience.
- Familiarizing employees with VR Headsets by taking them through training sessions for the same.
